Weekend trip in guernsey
The Offshore Model Racing Association (OMRA) held a festival in Guernsey over the weekend of 24/25 May, the first of its kind to be held here in the Bailiwick. OMRA was established at the beginning of the 1970s, as the concept of racing model boats on the open sea rapidly gained in popularity. The Guernsey Model Yacht Pond Club was formed in the mid-1980s, and there are currently around 20 local enthusiasts. The race season runs from the end of March until the end of September. The boats are similar in appearance to their full sized counterparts, and multiple classes of Nitro fuel boats were raced. These were the small classes which range from 36-45 inches long and 12-14 inches wide. There were also two petrol classes and these range from 55 to 85 inches long and 15 inches wide.
Opened in 1879 the Guernsey Railway started with two steam tram engines before being converted into an electric tramway in 1892. The line closed in 1934 and there is little to nothing left to identify its existence today
